TUPE Program
TUPE
TUPE stands for Tobacco-Use Prevention Education. (Our TUPE work includes e-cigarettes, vape pens, hookah pens, etc.) The purpose of TUPE is to reduce youth tobacco use by helping students make healthful decisions, as well as to develop the next generation of tobacco-free advocates.
How will I be achieving this? There are three main areas I will be focusing on this year:
1. Curriculum – Supporting science teachers in implementing a classroom-based, research-validated substance abuse prevention program (tobacco/drug curriculum)
2. Peer Educators – Train and support a team of students who plan and implement classroom presentations and school-wide events.
3. Brief intervention – One-on-one support for students caught on campus with tobacco products.
The school districts currently participating in the TUPE program are Antioch, Byron, Mt. Diablo, Pittsburg, and West Contra Costa, as well as the Contra Costa County Office of Education.
